You know you're a dog person when...

  • You have a kiddie wading pool in the yard, but no small children.
  • Pet hair removers are on your shopping list every week.
  • You have baby gates permanently installed at strategic places around the house, but no babies.
  • You can't see out the passenger side of the windshield because there are nose-prints all over the inside.
  • Poop has become a source of conversation for you and your significant other.
  • You refer to yourselves as Mommy and Daddy.
  • Your dog sleeps with you.
  • You have 32 different names for your dog. Most make no sense, but she understands.
  • You like people who like your dog. You despise people who don't.
  • You carry dog biscuits in your purse or pocket at all times.
  • You talk about your dog the way other people talk about their kid.
  • You sign and send birthday/anniversary/Christmas cards from your dog.
  • You put an extra blanket on the bed so your dog can be comfortable.
  • You'd rather stay home on Saturday night and cuddle your dog than go to the movies with your sweetie.
  • You open your purse, and that big bunch of baggies you use for pick-ups pops out.
  • You have your dog's picture on your office desk (but no one else's).
  • You hang around the dog section of your local bookstore.
  • Your parents refer to your pet as their granddog, remember her birthday, and send her greeting cards and gifts.
  • You keep an extra water dish in your second-floor bedroom, in case your dog gets thirsty at night (after all, her other dish is way down on the first floor...).
  • You keep eating even after finding a dog hair in your pasta.
  • You make popcorn just to play catch with your dog.
Dear Pet Lover,

Happy New Year!

In 2007 we achieved a number of major milestones, including welcoming the 1,700th Pet Consultant to the business.

For 2008, our goals and ambitions are greater than ever.  We recently introduced a number of new programs to help you reach your objectives:  1) refreshed the contents of The New Puppy on The Block Kit to reflect our better selling items; 2) modified our "Grr-eat Start" Program enabling those that want to build their business to be rewarded for their efforts; 3) introduced our "Business Builders" program that is designed to assist those that are interested in building a business; and 4)  announced the dates of our annual meeting, the Jam-fur-ee. The Jam-fur-ee will be held in Chicago July 18-20 2008, and all active Pet Consultants are encouraged to attend. This year's event promises to be our "best" ever.

The pet industry continues to grow at a rapid rate, and all indications are that in 2008 new industry sales records will be achieved. The demographics play in our favor.  Did you know that nearly 71% of US households have pets?  As the trend suggests, we treat our pets as part of the family, and the opportunities to develop a business selling pet products have never been better. I encourage you to explore the opportunity of being a Shure Pets Consultant.

Also, as we start the year, I encourage you to set objectives and goals--set realistic thresholds and you will achieve them.

Be positive and those around you will be interested and WILL WANT to support you and participate in your endeavor.

Surround yourself with people that support your dreams and goals.  Focus on the opportunities and reach for your goals.

I look forward to working with each of you this year.

Regards,andrew shure

Purr-fect Pet Health Tips

White Boxer Casper

Cold Weather Tips:

Housing: Be sure to provide proper shelter for your pets. If yours is an indoor pet, his bed or crate should be kept in a warm, draft-free area, preferably elevated slightly off the floor. If your pet is kept outdoors, provide a warm insulated pet house or shelter. The house should be elevated enough so that moisture cannot accumulate inside. If possible, provide a "door" (perhaps of canvas) to keep out the winter winds. If your pet is in a pen, you might block the wind and water with bales of straw and stretch canvas over the top of the pen. If the wind chill or other weather conditions become severe, bring your pet inside.

Frostbite: Remove ice and snow from your pet's paws and coat at once. Frostbitten skin may turn reddish, white or gray, and it may be scaly or sloughing. If you suspect frostbite, take your pet to a warm place immediately. Thaw out frostbitten areas slowly by applying warm, moist towels that are changed frequently. Continue until the affected areas become flushed. Contact your veterinarian as soon as possible; he/she will probably want to evaluate the seriousness of the condition.

Snow Removal Salt: Some substances produced to melt ice and snow have low to moderate toxicity, depending on the ingredients and amount ingested. Read the labels and take necessary precautions. Keep these products stored in tight containers out of your pet's and children's reach and be sure to remove salt from your pet's paws immediately

Antifreeze: Even a very small amount of antifreeze can be fatal. Precautions are necessary with all antifreeze products on the market. Read labels and warnings carefully. Thoroughly clean up spills at once. Keep containers closed tightly and store them where pets cannot get to them.

Food: Staying warm requires extra calories, so feed your pet accordingly when the temperature drops. Talk to your veterinarian for advice on feeding your pet.

Water: Always have fresh, clean water available for your pet. If your pet is kept outdoors, be sure to check his water frequently since it may freeze.

"I became interested in Shure Pets after reading an article in the 'Washington Post' about a Pet Party.  My family and I have been dog enthusiasts forever...I can't think of a better product than Shure Pets that I would rather represent."

Bone-us Trivia
January's Question:
What breed of dog is renowned for having a very poor sense of smell, but yet has the best eyesight of any breed of dog?

Purr-sonalized Throw

Please email info@shurepets.com with your trivia answer. A winner will be selected at random from all correct responses to receive FREE Shure Pets Products! The correct answer to this issue's Bone-us Trivia will be printed in next month's Pet Gazette.

The December trivia question was:
In Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, Alice has her own pet kitten that she leaves behind before she goes down the rabbit hole.  What is the kitten's name?  Although we had many responses, Nicole M. (#1982) was the selected winner with the correct response of Dinah and received a special Shure Pets prize. Good luck to everyone participating in January's trivia contest!
