Pet Consultant of the Month

Naomi M. (#2388) is happily married to her husband of nearly 10 years, Thomas and they have a beautiful daughter together, Alannah, who is 11. She is originally from Middleboro, Mass. and migrated to Clearfield, PA in 1992.
In March, 2007, Naomi was working as an EMT when she was injured on the job and no longer able to work in any previous field due to her physical restrictions. She had tried doing Home Interiors parties in August of last year. After 8 months, 3 parties and frustration of not being able to get a booking to save her life, and still coming out in the hole, Naomi started looking around on the internet for something newer. She didn't want to get into anything that was already over-flooded with consultants.
She literally stumbled on Shure Pets on this one site called www.homepartyplannetwork.com . Naomi says she thought "How original is this!" Searching the corporate site, she realized that Pennsylvania had a shortage of Pet Consultants. She tested the waters by placing a couple of ads on two different free sites and got about 10 email responses within roughly about 30 minutes. She enrolled on the spot!! By the end of the first week, Naomi had responded to more than 50 emails, booked 3 parties, 2 vendor events and began thinking long-term.
Her husband Tom works away, so she says balancing family time is tough. Naomi says, "I try to keep his days off free, with the exception of follow-up calls. However, whenever we go out anywhere, I have my trusty Shure Pets tote on my shoulder packed with all the essentials....my calendar, a complete host packet, a couple of cat-alogs, business cards and of course, my purse. Carrying the tote around has generated a lot of looks, which is good. I greet all of them with a smile and a hello and I try to talk Shure Pets to everyone. I keep in toned down though when Tom's home."
Her daughter Alannah has become her assistant, though Naomi says "she'll say assistant manager. Some of my best ideas have come from her. Kids think outside the box, so when I need a new marketing idea, I go to her. It's often too hard for an adult to see 'the forest for the trees'."
Naomi's first year goal is to have a full team of 20 active consultants. Ambitious? Yes. Impossible? NO! She currently has one gal enrolled, Barbara D from Brookville, PA, and a handful of others that are working on buying down their kits. She has several parties booked for April and is looking to jam her calendar for May and beyond.
She says she loves being a Pet Consultant, especially for Shure Pets. In Naomi's words: "I have the freedom to be creative, work within my limitations and still have a fantastic income. I get to support a whole new niche that hasn't even had the surface scratched yet. Currently, I am working on an Opportunity Event with Carol Caito, whose knowledge is a treasure trove, an advertising campaign, my first vendor event, creating a gift basket service with Shure Pets products."
Thanks Naomi! We look forward to continued success with you! |

Excerpts from a Cat's Daily Diary:
Day 183 of My Captivity
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant. Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair, must try this on their bed. Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was. Hmmm, not working according to plan. There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of " allergies. " Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.
I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches.
The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has got to be an informant, and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time... |

Dear Pet Lover,
I have some exciting news that I want to share with you.
Last autumn Carol Caito joined Shure Pets as our Director of Training. Carol has over 10 years of experience in direct selling and party planning, earning the title of Senior Director independent consultant at The Pampered Chef and has corporate training experience at Market Day. Carol can be reached at carol.caito@shurepets.com.
Today, we are adding another industry veteran to help you take your business to new heights. Mardee Thomas will be partnering with "The Pound" and will be a valuable resource to all of you, as she has been in direct selling for over twenty years. Specifically, Mardee began her career at BeautiControl Cosmetics as an independent consultant, then joined Creative Memories heading up the Canadian market. Mardee later worked at The Body Shop at Home as the National Sales Manager for the United States.
Both Carol and Mardee have a rich history in the industry and very impressive track records, and we are proud to have them on our team. I believe that with the addition of these two industry veterans that our sales and training efforts will continue to be the best in the industry. Mardee can be reached at mardee.thomas@shurpets.com. Please help me welcome Mardee Thomas to the Shure Pets team!
I would also like to take this opportunity to invite you to attend The Jam-fur-ee, our national conference, that is scheduled to take place in Chicago this July 18-20. All active Pet Consultants are encouraged to attend, as we recognize the previous year's achievements, introduce new programs, products and tools, give consultants the opportunity to meet their peers, and provide exciting, new training to help you take your business to grr-eat heights! For those of you who have not yet signed up to be Pet Consultants, I encourage you to take the next step in time to join us and participate in the Jam-fur-ee activities. The Jam-fur-ee will give each of you an opportunity to meet the members of the pound and other Pet Consultants throughout the country and promises to be a fun, education and rewarding experience.
With unemployment rates skyrocketing and the current economy in a "slump", direct selling offers you the opportunity to earn supplemental income and to "build a business." The dynamics of the Pet industry and our innovative business provides you with the opportunity to capitalize on your passions while earning income in a profession you love. We are well positioned to take advantage of this opportunity.
I look forward to working with all of you and seeing you at the Jam-fur-ee in July!
Regards,
Andrew Shure

Purr-fect Pet Health Tips

Spring Safety for your Pet:
With spring here, the beginning of more hours of daylight in the next few weeks can bring us closer to our pets and families, as we often carve out a little extra time each day for recreation. To ensure continued health and well being, keep a few tips in mind:
Indoors:
- As the old saying goes, showers bring flowers...so check that your houseplants and flowers aren't poisonous, should your pet nibble on one.
- Spring cleaning? Home improvement products such as paints and cleaning solvents can be toxic. Carefully check labels and use sparingly around your pet and be sure to safely store all products away from pets and children when not in use.
- Take your pet to the veterinarian for a check-up and to receive any yearly or quarterly Vaccinations and medicines.
Outdoors:
- Springtime attracts extra attention to the yard for many home owners, inspiring them to fertilize and use pesticides to promote greener grass and bigger blooms, while discouraging insects. However, be sure to keep animals' exposure to these toxic chemicals to a minimum. Pay particular attention to N-P-K fertilizers (which contain nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium salts), which can lead to gastro-intestinal upset and paw or skin irritation. Also watch out for iron content of more than 1%, which can be fatal if ingested. Be sure to safely store all products away from pets and children when not in use.
- While outdoor playtime is increased, practice safety - protect your dog from traffic by always walking him or her on a leash, and restrict time off the leash to safe areas designated for free roaming.
- Keep an eye on your pet's coat and check regularly for fleas and ticks. Also be careful of mosquitoes, as they can transmit Heartworms to your cat or dog, which can be fatal.
- Fishing is a popular recreational activity of choice in springtime weather. However, a relaxing excursion can turn into a hazardous emergency if proper caution is not exercised. Remember to keep all fishing line, hooks, and bait far away from your pet - as hooks can easily catch on the mouth or paws of your pet, and resilient fishing line can become an intestinal blockage requiring surgical removal if ingested.
- In case of an accidental runaway incident of your pet, keep an Identification Tag on your dog or cat that includes your current phone number.

"Barks of Approval"
Testimonials
"I just wanted to share with you my story with the S-s-tretch toy! My two lab mix's received theirs yesterday and boy what a hit! They have tugged and tugged on him and amazingly enough, he is still in one piece! They have not put it down and even sleep with it! I ordered two, one for my line, and finally gave in to let them both have one as one of my girls is a HOG and kept it away from my other girl. Yeah like that worked as the "Hog" then took them both! Needless to say they just have the one now as like kids they are going to go after what the other one has! I recommend this toy as my girls usually tear stuffed animals up in 5 mins! To me S-s-tretch is so worth it and cute! Wish I would have bought him long ago as I for shure would be money ahead!"
-Deb B. (#1488, St. Francis, MN)
"I had my first party on March 16th. All my friends have received their products and have had nothing but positive feedback!! The large Hurley is a big hit with my friend's Bullmastiff, the pet towel and the sponge working wonders for another friend and her Chocolate Lab, and so on and so on. It makes me even more proud to have become a Pet Consultant for Shure Pets."
-Christine H. (#2268, Largo, FL)
"I made my first batch of dog cookies today and took them to some neighbors...My dogs love them!! they waited in the kitchen patiently for each test batch. The favorite was the bacon ones. I still rolled them and shaped them in the cut outs. I think this will sell more cookie cutters!!"
-Heather U. (#2406, Avondale, AZ)
"I am a new consultant, having just received my stater kit last week. I have one dog and three cats. My youngest cat has adopted the rat-a-cat-cat for his own, having almost pulled it out of the box when I opened it...I am impressed by the quality of the products. I am looking forward to getting started with this new venture!" -Karen S. (#2440, Amherst, OH)
"I have two yellow lab/mix breeds and one cat and they love Shure Pets!! The Hurley bone is the best and the zisc but best of all are the shampoos!!"
-Deb B. (#1488, St. Francis, MN)
