The Statesman Journal (Salem, OR) ran a feature article on May 25 about Shure Pets titled, "Pet Product Parties Are All The Rage" . We experience this "rage" daily and feel lucky to participate in such an exciting business model. We combined two growth categories; the fast growing pet industry and the direct selling/party plan business model to create Shure Pets. Today, we are the cat-egory innovator and the nation's leading provider of pet products through our network of passionate independent Pet Consultants. I enjoy hearing from each of you and the success that you experience in your business and your love of the products. Thank you for your contributions!

Last year we held a contest to determine the "Companion Animal of the Year". We received a great deal of responses and I would like to thank everyone for participating. We heard such wonderful stories and each of you understand the connection that we all have with our pets. We selected a winner and I am pleased to announce that it is Boone. Boone shows the strong relationship we all have with our pet and his story is great! (Boone's story is below in this newsletter)

We have introduced a number of new promotions for the month of June:

1) For first time in Company history, we are offering a "hostess special" for the month of June. For all qualifying parties (must be a least $400.00 in sales) the hostess will earn a free Recipe Cookie Cutter Gift Pack in addition to the posted hostess items.

2) Additionally, this month all new Pet Consultants who enroll into the business will receive a free Giant Gour-mutt Bacon Bone with their New Puppy on The Block Kit.

We have introduced a number of new products this month including our Pet Dental Kit, Apple/Banana Cookie Flakes, Mutt Puppets, Catnip Mice, Kitty Gift Packs, Comfortable Creature beds and much more. Please check out shurepets.com and let me know your thoughts.

I look forward to working with each of you. Please let me know how I can help you reach your goals.

Regards,

Andrew Shure

Pet Consultant of the Month
Profile of Success

Bonnie D. (#508 Gladstone, OR) is the proud mother of Kodak (aka The Destroyer). He is a thirteen year old Jack Russell Terrier. Bonnie states, "He's the only dog I've had. I've mostly been a cat person, until now! With the help of Kody and Shure Pets, I've grown to love dogs just as much. At present I have two cats, Muffy (16) and Bandit (7). I also have four grand-cats which I'm 'shure' will come to live with me eventually!"

"I first heard about Shure Pets on CNN TV in May of 2005. I saw a Pupperware Party and I thought that sounded like fun! I Googled Pupperware and got the number for Shure Pets. I called and talked to David. I said, 'I want to have a Pupperware Party!' He said, 'We don't have anyone in Portland yet.' I said, 'Sign me Up!' I didn't know what I was getting in to, but it's been a lot of fun! I read the [Shure Pets] message boards daily and picked up a lot of good information from Pet Consultants around the country. I had my first open house a couple of months later."

"We've got a good team (in the Northwest) and we're trying to make our presence known. I've attended many events, big and small, and I've thoroughly enjoyed them all (except the two in 100 degree heat!) Every time I see a new breed at a show or party, I want it! So far I've resisted."

"I love Shure Pets for the difference it's made in Kodak's life. He is allergic to EVERYTHING! Including the antibodies he makes himself! So he has taken a lot of pills over the years. The Pill Popper Treats (#226) are my favorite item because they help me get his medicine in him like never before. He has so many skin issues and I have managed to get a routine down with the Medicated (#101), Oatmeal (#116) and Emu Shampoos (#132) to calm his skin with intermittent spray applications. Kodak is named 'The Destroyer' because in thirteen years he's not had a toy longer than two days, except THE HURLEY (#504)! Once we gave him that he's managed to keep it all in one piece and that says a lot about our products! I'm proud to have his picture in the Shure Pets Cat-alog as Hurley Dog! He is my greatest selling tool!"

"My husband and I operate a Portrait Photography studio. We've worked together for 31 years. He is just as excited about Shure Pets as I am and has been a big help. Whenever we have pets at the studio, including horses, he's selling! He's sold quite a bit of Liquid Silk Horse Products! We photograph lots of animals, including 20,000+ show cats over the years. The natural attraction to people and their animals is what makes this business so easy! When you have the passion about animals, like we all do, it's not going to be hard to be successful. I think the Passion is what sells this business."

"And, speaking of Passion, I've been to both Jam-fur-ees in Chicago and I want to tell you all that the most amazing people are in The Pound (Corporate office)! Andrew is passionate about making this company successful! He has tremendous support from David and Kristina. They are the backbone of this company and their passion is to help us all become successful over the long haul. I think that's terrific!"

Companion Animal of The Year
Boone

Thank you everyone who submitted their entry for the Shure Pets "Companion Animal of the Year" Contest. We received some truly amazing stories and motivating tales. We are proud to announce that Boone (owned by Connie Fredman - submitted by Louise K. Pet Consultant #1263) was selected as our winner and Connie and Boone will receive $250.00 worth of Shure Pets credit.

Boone's story is below:
Boone is a tri-corner dog. When he was three years old, he lost his left front leg as a result of a car accident. Unlucky dog one would think -but after the amputation Boone and Connie Fredman found each other, and the world is now a brighter place for both of them and for the community they live in.

MOTIVATOR and INSPIRATION are two words that come up often when Boone's friends speak of him. He is a Dog of Great Joy. His trademark posture is on his back with three legs in the air, waiting for a tummy rub. He is a gentle soul, agreeable in any situation. His accomplishments and community volunteer tasks are many.

As a member of YAPS (Youth and Pet Survivors) he is a pen-pal to

young people who are cancer survivors. Although he has never had cancer, but because he is an amputee, he was first paired with a young man named Sean who lost a leg to a malignant tumor. He (with secretarial help from Connie) corresponded with Sean, who was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma as a teenager. Sean felt better after spilling out his problems in letters to Boone. After Sean died at age 19, his parents found an unposted letter that he had written to Boone, explaining that he understood his death was imminent and that he could accept it. This message was a comfort to Sean's parents after his death, and they are grateful to Boone and Connie.

Also in YAPS, Boone was pen-pal to Phillip, whose brain tumor took his life after he and Boone had corresponded for only two short months.

Currently, Boone is a YAPS pen-pal to Anise, who at age 13 was diagnosed with leukemia. Her correspondence with Boone inspired her to enter the Colorado Courage Classic (a benefit bike ride for Children's Hospital of Denver) in July 2005. Anise, who was still undergoing chemotherapy, rode a tandem bike with Jenny, a friend she acquired through her association with Boone, on the 155 mile bicycle trek. Boone rode along with her in a trailer behind Connie's bike and was Anise's inspiration and motivator when the ride became physically challenging for both of them. They completed the ride and made new friends along the way.

Boone is a certified Pet Partner therapy dog with the international Delta Society, through Larimer Animal People Partnership (LAPP) in Fort Collins, Colorado. In this capacity he assists at library reading groups where children are paired with dogs as they read books aloud. The children are eager to read to Boone, whatever their reading skill level, because is non-critical and accepting. He listens (or naps and snuggles) while the children read aloud to him. He participates in organized Sunday afternoon reading programs at two libraries in his home town.

The library reading afternoons are the easy ones. Still involved with LAPP, Boone participates in a monthly visit to the local domestic violence shelter, where he interacts with children surviving trauma which has driven them from their homes. He also visits a mental health facility serving children and teenagers with severe mental illness. In addition, he has played games with residents of an alternative residential school for children with social disorders that prevent them from attending public schools.

As a member of Therapy Animals in Loving Service (TAILS), Boone travels to Longmont, Colorado to visit patients at United Hospital. In hospital settings, he rides in a special gurney that enables him to visit with least inconvenience to the facility, to him, and to Connie. He is an inspiration to patients there who see that, in spite of his significant disability, his accomplishments are many and his life is full of fun.

Fort Collins is the site of Colorado State University, one of the leading veterinary teaching hospitals in the country. CSU vet hospital requires blood donors for research and treatment of animals which come to them from all over the United States. Boone is a blood donor for CSU and doesn't mind the occasional pricks and blood draws that are life-saving for other animals.

Though not a heroic task, perhaps Boone's greatest day-to-day contribution is his genial welcome to animals that come into his home through Connie's work as a post-medical sanctuary provider for animals requiring care and therapy during and after their stay at the CSU veterinary hospital.

Connie offers housing, medication and transportation to appointments for dogs and other animals who have received treatment at the CSU veterinary teaching hospital and whose owners, through the barriers of distance, cannot immediately continue their post-treatment care. Home care and loving solace promotes healing in dogs that are traumatized and missing their own homes. Boone is a big part of this. Along with his elderly and disabled brother Ozzie, as well as assorted cats and horses, he welcomes client dogs to his home, shows them the ropes, and comforts them as they settle in. He is never aggressive or territorial with the client animals, but will discipline them gently if they transgress the house rules.

Boone is also active politically. He recently appeared before a Colorado Senate House Health and Human Services Committee to "testify" in favor of a bill that would allow pets to receive physical therapy without a veterinarian in the room. The bill passed unanimously.

In January 2006 Boone was chosen "Spokesdog of the Year" by the Fort Collins Coloradoan, his hometown newspaper. He came out on top of a field of 35 candidates largely because of his outgoing personality and his many volunteer activities. His smiling face was centered in a full-page spread in the newspaper. In his Spokesdog capacity he has his own e-mail address.

The amputation of his leg has not been Boone's only affliction. In 2005, he developed a pancreatic abscess which required surgery at the CSU veterinary hospital and five days in the intensive care unit. Five weeks later, displaying similar symptoms, he was diagnosed with a perforated stomach, which nearly took his life and required another surgery and another stay in the intensive care unit. One morning later in the fall Connie found him unable to walk. The diagnosis then was a ruptured spinal disk, and more surgery. Boone is still cheerfully recovering from that, although he did get sunburn on the shaved spot on his back! He now suffers from elbow arthritis in his remaining front leg; although suffering, with Boone, does not noticeably impede his begging for tummy rubs.

Boone is present at local dog events such as Larimer Animal People Partnership's Doggie Olympics, the Larimer Humane Society's Fire Hydrant Five and the library's annual Annie Walk fundraiser, riding in his cart or in the wagon Connie provides when brother Ozzie accompanies Boone. They inspire and motivate both the participating dogs and their families.

Boone is a wonderful companion, not only to Connie, but also to the other humans and animals he interacts with and motivates daily.

Purr-fect Pet Health Tip
Spring Time Happiness

Looking Through the Window
It is relaxing to feel the fresh Spring air and gentle breeze that enters your house through open windows. However, make 'shure' your windows are screened and tightly secured. Unfortunately, thousands of pets are seriously injured each year from falls resulting from open windows in homes and apartment buildings.

Jog the Dog
Running with your canine can be grrr-eat exercise for both of you. Keep in mind your dog's age and overall health condition when choosing your running route. Be careful not to overwork/stress your pet to the point when it is injured. Additionally, keep away from hot tar or paved surfaces that can cause burns to your pet's foot pad.  Please make 'shure' to use Paramount Lemon BugSpray and Sunscreen (#141) if your pet is outdoors for an extended period of time to protect against the sun's harmful rays.

Tick and Flea Free
The same Lyme disease (carried by ticks) that reaches healthy people can do serious damage to companion animals.  Shure Pets Paramount Tick and Flea Free Shampoo (#113) effectively kills fleas, ticks and lice leaving your pet feeling healthy, happy and nice.

Bone-us Trivia
The first cat show in the United Statesoccurred in 1895. What venue was the cat show held in?

Please email
info@shurepets.com with your trivia answer. A winner will be selected at random from all correct responses to receive FREE Shure Pets Products! The correct answer to this issue's Bone-us Trivia will be printed in next month's Pet Gazette.

The May trivia question was: First pets have always been popular. President Bill Clinton's cat and his Chocolate Labrador dog managed to attract quite a few fans as well. What were the names of these two companion animals? Although we had many responses, Jo-Hannah C. (#1908 New Britain, CT) was the selected winner with the correct response (Socks and Buddy) and she received a special Shure Pets prize. Good luck to everyone participating in June's trivia contest!

"Barks of Approval"

Testimonials

"I just wanted to share my experience with the Calming Elixir (#212). My six
year old Papillon is very high strung and I was looking for something to calm her down. I started her on the calming elixir about five days ago. I wasn't sure I noticed anything different about her until yesterday. I gave her a bath with the Oatmeal Conditioning Shampoo (#116),

Conditioning Rinse (#109) and Tangle and Mat Combat Spray (#115), (Love them all!) and I then proceeded to make an attempt at cutting her nails. Macarena in the past has only let me cut one or two toenails at a time
before throwing a fit. I could not believe it, I was able to cut all of her nails with only a little bit of fussing!!!! This is a miracle! I used to have to take her to the vet to have her nails clipped and they charged $16 because it took two people to get the job done! I will
recommend this product to anyone who has a pet with a personality like
mine!!"
-Robin S. (#1896 Mechanicsburg, PA).

"I fell in love with the Shure Pets Shampoos. I am a groomer and now that is the only shampoo that I will recommend and use on the dogs that I groom". -Rachel S. (#1746 Glendale, AZ).

"I got the [New Puppy on the Block Starter] Kit last Friday afternoon. Love the kit! I gave my two dogs the pup-corn (#215) and they loved it. Shure Pets products are so cool. I'm having a Pet Party this Friday at my house for some of my friends and family." - Jo-Hannah C. (#1908 New Britain, CT).

Purr-fect Pet Health Tips

Camping with your Canine
Going camping with your dog can be a fun, rewarding experience for both you and your furry pal. Dogs will discover interesting features and creatures that you might otherwise overlook, and a dog is thrilled with all of the new odors and sites of a campsite. You may see new characteristics in your dog when you are camping with him as well (i.e. walks a little faster, opens his eyes a little wider). Unlike hiking, your dog does not have to be in the best physical shape to camp, and you can take more supplies with you than you can while hiking. Make "shure" you bring along all necessary supplies for your pal on your campout experience, including Paramount Lemon Sunscreen/Bug Spray (#141).

Purr-fect Purring?
Have you ever been petting your cat and he is purring away loudly, when suddenly, he bites down on your hand? This usually results from overstimulation. Sometimes when Kitty is really enjoying being cuddled, he gets overwhelmed. His instincts tell him to get rid of that nervous energy by snapping. Screaming and reprimanding him will not accomplish much as he is likely to further tense up and nip again every time you pet him. Instead, remove the stimulus completely. If he nips at you, try taking your hand away and ignoring him. He'll learn that, if he wants attention, biting is a not the solution.
