In the August 6 issue of Business Week, the pet industry was prominent featured in the cover article "The Pet Economy." This in-depth article on pet spending shed some new light on pampering pooches. For example, did you know that at $41 billion a year, Americans spend more on their companions than the gross domestic product of all but 34 countries in the world? Or that Americans spend more on their four-legged friends than they do on going to the movies, playing video games or listening to music? According to Business Week, The pet industry is the fastest growing category in retail after consumer electronics and is one the most lucrative industries in America. With all the buzz circulating about our industry, it is a great time to be involved in pet products and with Shure Pets!
Shure Pets is also thrilled to announce the arrival of our new 2008 cat-alog. Premiering today, this cat-alog is our most impressive to date expanding by over 25% since last year. That's more than 60 new products. We are so proud of the new additions to our product line and we hope that you will be too! For those of you that are Shure Pets veterans, rest assured that your favorites from foaming cleansers to hurleys are still available. Over the weekend, we had a sneak peek of our new products at "the Pound" in Chicago. The overwhelming consensus of the consultants was genuinely exciting. We can't wait for you to see the new products for yourselves so be sure to make an appointment with your local consultant to talk about the new catalogs today. We are also thrilled to announce that we have signed on more than 1,600 consultants to the Shure Pets family! Congratulations to Stephanie A. (#743 Geneva, IL) of the "Best in Show" team for signing up our lucky number 1,600 Gina S. (#2019 Andover, KS). This is truly an exciting time for all of us as we continue to grow! Next month we will also be celebrating our four-year anniversary, so keep your eye out for a special anniversary promotion beginning next month.

Profile of Success
Jeanette E. (#1183 Buellton, CA) lives with her husband Paul five year old son Blake and a menagerie of animals. Dogs, Cats, Parrots, reptiles, Chickens, Cows and Horses! Her animals are the reason she was excited to chose Shure Pets as her business after reading an article in the Santa Barbara News Press.
Jeanette says "I thought Shure Pets was right up my alley! I worked as a Veterinary Technician for fifteen years so I have lots of animal experience. I did all the ordering for the Clinic and have tried lots of shampoos over the years and I have to say I like the Shure Pet shampoos the best! I have never used a whitening shampoo that works as well and leaves their coat so soft. I have also noticed in using the shampoo and conditioner on my horses mane and tails that they are much easier to brush out."

Purr-fect Pet Health Tips
Hot Hot Heat
Hyperthermia is defined as an excessively high body temperature of 105-110 F. This problem occurs most commonly in the warm summer heat when the temperature is high accompanied with high humidity. The Heat Index is the most important factor for heat stroke. Dogs and cats cannot sweat like people, instead they pant to release the heat. The only place a pet can sweat is from their foot pads. Make sure to provide your pet with plenty of shade and fresh water at all times. You should not over exercise your pet on days when the heat index is high. Leaving your pet in the car unattended is never a good idea, especially in the summer months. If on a cool day of 75 F, the temperature inside a car can soar to 120 F in only 10 minutes, imagine what will happen on a steamy August day.
Signs of Heat Stroke:
Excessive panting, excessive salivation (drooling), racing pulse, vomiting and legs, ears & nose are hot to the touch.
If you think your pet is suffering from Heat Stroke: Have a pet thermometer to take your pet's temp, bring your pet inside to air conditioning, place your pet in a cool water bath, offer sips of cool water and contact your regular veterinarian immediately!
Don't Let Your Favorite Pet Go Back to School When the school bell rings, don't let your pet go back to school. Many dogs and cats will naturally follow kids--or will be encouraged to tag along. Many become lost, injured, or cause a nuisance around the school yard. Keep your pet confined when children leave for school. If you drive, don't take the pets with you. Animals learn quickly and may find their own way to school later on. Brief separations during the days just before the new school year will help those children and pets that are especially close. And if your pet is missing, call the school first.
