    August 2004

    Dear Pet Lover~

As the "Dog Days of Summer" begin transitioning to autumn, it is time to start looking toward the upcoming months as students return to school and the howl-idays are just around the corner. As Shure Pets approaches our first year anniversary, we refuse to rest on our past success and are working harder to meet customer and Pet Consultant demand, remaining proactive in our business model and expecting continuous growth in the months ahead.

Upon Pet Consultant request, we have recently created our vivid Shure Pets postcard invitations for Pet Parties (product #20) and have added email tracking systems for our shipments. We are working on expanding our product line and promotional and public relations campaigns.

Pet Consultants, keep up the grrr-eat work as bonuses and rewards are being earned and collected at all time high levels. As always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to notify us as we depend on your input.

Thank you from the bottom of our paws, Andrew Shure, Shure Pets, Founder

    Shure Pets Events

August saw two Shure Pet University (SPU) sessions, with the first occurring in our Corporate Office on August 3rd and a traveling SPU took place on August 16 in New York City. Shure Pets own Andrew Shure and David Feld headed the programs and the Chicago SPU had Pet Consultants Michelle M. and her daughter from Washington, PA (#0193), Marquita O. from Bourbonnais, IL (#0232) and Maureen S. from Chicago, IL (#0074) in attendance (see picture). Present at the Big Apple's big session were Jennifer I. from Winsted, CT (#0236) and Saundra T. from New York, NY (#0077). During both sessions, we discussed new product ideas and additions, the future direction of Shure Pets, how to grow your own team of eager Pet Consultant puppies and had a de-tailed Question and Answer session. The Pet Consultants also got the first look at our new invitational Postcards and purchased products.

Due to the overwhelming success and feedback generated from past Universities, We will continue holding SPU the first Tuesday of every month at 2:00 p.m. Mark your calendars now and come and see us on Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. or on Tuesday, October 5 at 2 p.m. Shure Pets University is held at the Shure Pets Corporate Office, located at 1556 N. LaSalle, Chicago, IL. Next month's Shure Pets University will focus on promoting your Shure Pets business; creative thinking for building your team; and discussion of the new products. Following each two-hour training session is Shure Pets' monthly "Meet and Greet" event, which is open to prospective Pet Consultants. The "Meet and Greet" sessions begin at 4:00 p.m. Advance reservations are required for Shure Pets University (so we can plan accordingly), which can be made by calling 1.888.SHURE.PETS; or emailing SPU@shurepets.com. We hope to see you all soon and are looking forward to the continued growth of Shure Pets University.

Featured Pet Consultant: Carolyn L. (#0099)

Carolyn L. (#0099) has already done a paw-some job in her Shure Pets business and has done it all with a smile. She was born and raised in San Francisco, California. Lenzi was a flight attendant for two years and then married and moved to Napa, California and began teaching. She has two "terrific adult sons, two marvelous daughter-in- laws, two darling granddaughters and a granddog, an old soul yellow lab." She explains "They are my cheerleaders and support me in my three business; picture framing, dog-sitting and Shure Pets. Her companion pets include two cocker spaniels (ages 11 and 5), a rescued beagle (2), a cat (12) and seven fish. When Lenzi retired from 32 years of teaching 6th grade, she decided to get involved in Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT), meeting up with a knowledgeable, expert and starting a Pet Partners/Delta Society affiliate in her hometown of Napa. She has been organizing and growing the Animal Assisted Therapy for the past four years.

When Lenzi first read about Shure Pets in the USA Magazine (May 2004), she intuitively thought this was something she could do. Her niece, the former president of a company and who now teaches University business classes, helped her develop a business plan.

Her first goal was to accomplish the Shure Pets Fast Start Program and receive a $150 bonus in the first eight weeks of her business. "Shure" enough, Lenzi quickly accomplished this task (see Pet Consultant Business below for more details). Lenzi states "I work on my Shure Pets business at least five days a week, even if it's just making a point to mention Shure Pets to three new people that day. I have one Pet Party about every two weeks. One of the many enjoyable aspects of being a Shure Pets Consultant has been meeting the fabulous dogs and their people. I especially appreciate the help I've received from the folks in Chicago. I am always treated graciously.

With Carolyn's determination, paw-sitive attitude and work ethic, we are confident that she has only just begun growing into her huge puppy paws. We are very proud of her accomplishments and look forward to continued success.

    Pet Consultant Business

We would like to acknowledge the grrr-eat accomplishments of two members of the Shure Pets Team. Carolyn L. (#0099) (featured above) and Marcia M. #0192 are both Pet Consultants who completed our Fast Start Program. To achieve this, they sold $1,200 in product and recruited at least one member to thier team in their first eight weeks as a Pet Consultant. This is a very big honor and as a reward, they will each be given a check for $150 dollars, more than paying for thier New Puppy on the Block Starter Kits! Bow Wow! Grrr-eat job, Carolyn and Marcia! We hope to see more Pet Consultants complete our Fast Start Program in the coming months!

It's been another busy month here at Shure Pets! Our new team members are the key to keeping our business growing and helping spread the word about Shure Pets! Please join us in welcoming the newest members of the Shure Pets Team! Congratulations and welcome the following members:

Shure Pets Products of the Month

August's Products of the Month are: Paramount Bright White Shampoo, OctoPal Cat Toy and Paint a Pet Bowl Kit.

Paramount Bright White Shampoo (#114) Here is a way to easily keep your white and light coated pets as dazzling bright as your favorite white shirt! You can use this all-natural shampoo as often as desired to keep your companion dazzling bright. This shampoo does not contain bleach or peroxide.

Q: Why can it be so difficult to keep my white dog from looking so dirty?

A: White dog hair tends to be thinner than hair with color and often has fewer cuticle layers than dark hair. It also can be more porous. These two qualities magnify the challenge of maintaining white pets. Because of increased pores, the white coat holds dirt and because of the thinner nature of the hair cuticle, staining is more likely to occur.

OctoPal Cat Toy (#512) This colorful cat toy will drive your cat fishy for hours and is stuffed full of premium catnip! Catnip and sewn-in bells are well hidden to prevent accidental injury or ingestion. This toy can able be attached to Catnip Teaser (#511). Available colors: Gold, Royal Blue, Red and Jade.

Q: Will catnip really be good for my cat if i'm going out of town or if he starts acting up?

A: Yes. Cats can get easily stressed when anything different takes place in the household. For example, home construction, an out- of-town human, canine and/or feline visitor or a change in the routine work schedule may upset cats. Under stress, housecats may relieve the pressure with erratic behavior or by missing the litter box. You may be able to "nip" the problem by offering catnip.

Paint a Pet Bowl (#612) This is a great way to involve all of your family members in your pet's lives. The set includes 6" diameter ceramic bowl, vinyl mat, 6 colors of ceramic paint, brush and illustrated instructions.

Q: Is it okay to feed my dog what humans eat?

A: While we are all tempted to share our food with our dogs there are many "people foods" that they should not consume. Below is a list of items that should be fed to your pet with extreme caution or should not be given to your pet at all. If you have any questions, call your veterinarian. Raisins, onions, chocolate, coffee, tea and tea bags, macadamia nuts, fried foods, tomatoes, apples, raw eggs, excessive salt and alcohol.

    Tips for Purr-fect Pet Health
From dogs to rabbits: Keeping your pet healthy is important

Keep your dog's nails trim While long nails may be pretty and hip in the world of fashion, they are definitely a no-no for dogs. Pets that pitter-patter on overgrown nails put extra stress on the joints in their paws, which can lead to more serious medical problems. Plus, nails that are left to grow like weeds can become snagged in carpets or furniture. If your pet is skittish while you're trying to trim her nails, try to enlist the aid of a friend or family member who can hold her in place while you clip away. If she is too scared, it is best to take your pet into a professional groomer to trim the nails for you.

Cat food can help keep your cat hydrated Canned food usually has more than 75% moisture; dry food usually contains l5% moisture. This is why cats eating all dry or a mix of dry and canned food tend to drink more water. In fact, older cats may develop kidney disease from being dehydrated. If you are feeding all dry food and change to canned, you may see your cat stop drinking as much water. This is a paws-itive sign that the cat is more hydrated.

Tips to picking the purr-fect bird cage Remember that no cage could ever be too big! Canaries & finches prefer vertical wires. Budgies & other birds in the parrot family prefer horizontal wires for climbing. A variety of perch diameters should be available for your bird. This helps prevent arthritis. An extra set of perches should be kept on hand in case you wash the old ones. Wet perches can lead to arthritis. Cage wires should be spaced further apart for larger birds. This prevents feather damage and broken wings. Above all, purchase a cage that is lead & zinc free.

Hints on picking out a healthy rabbit Look at the overall body condition - the rabbit should be neither fat nor skinny, with no swellings. The rabbit's coat should be well groomed, with no bare patches. Look at the ears, they should be pink, not red, and free of discharge. The ear flaps shouldn't be damaged. Check the coat around the eyes for signs of wetness or tear staining. Try to get a look at the teeth, they should not be overgrown and should be well-aligned. Also check for wet or matted fur on the chin. Observe how the rabbit reacts to people - ideally pick a rabbit that is relatively calm about being approached and petted.
