Featured Pet Consultant: Tim Conklin (#0064)

"I live in "Bark-hamsted", a small town in the beautiful Northwest hills of Connecticut. I've always loved to sell - right from my teenage years putting together family tag sales.

I built an online store and started looking for some unique pet products to offer my customers. Simply searching the internet I stumbled upon the Shure Pets website. The first product I believe I found was the dog table - and I thought "I have got to have this!" Then I saw the "Aro-Mutt" fragrances. Aroma therapy for pets had me intrigued - "Aro-Mutt" had me hooked. The whole concept of Shure Pets - from the business opportunity to being the only "Pet Party" in town, was very appealing. It's just amazing that no one has thought of this before. I'm working hard to recruit a Connecticut team and I'm paws- itive Shure pets WILL become a household name.

I was very anxious to receive my starter kit. Linzy, our Beagle, really loved all the scents and she gets all excited, wagging her tail like it's a helicopter when she sees a bottle of Spritzer. I was blown away by the care [the Shure Pets Team] had taken to individually wrap all the contents in purple tissue paper -very impressive! It's been one corporate office that has been a pleasure to do business with!"

Shure Pets Products of the Month

We are introducing many unique products this month in our new 40 page Cat-alog. We now have over 100 grrr-eat products for you and your customers to select from! Below are three items we have selected to be this month's "Products of the Month"!

Fling Thing (#506) A variation of the original Frisbee, the Fling Thing has raised edges making this toy easy for dogs to pick up. It flies over 50 feet! The Fling Thing floats above water for high visibility and is composed of a soft material which gently rubs teeth clean.

Q: How important is good hygiene for pets?

A: Periodontal disease is the number one dental problem in dogs and cats, and pets often develop defects below the gumline which may be hard to detect. As in humans, abscessed teeth or periodontal disease can affect other parts of the body. They can cause heart and kidney disease in dogs and cats.

Car Mats (#721) Now here's a fun way to keep the floor of your car clean with these adorable dog car mats! The mats are 26" long and feature your favorite breed with paw prints. The mats come in packs of two and are available in various breeds.

Q: Is it safe to leave my pet in the car during the summer months to run into the store?

A: No, it is not safe. Even with the windows rolled down, it can only take a few minutes for the temperatures to rise in a vehicle in excess of 150 degrees! Overheating can cause a stroke, brain damage or even death to your pet.

Paramount Ideal Oatmeal Conditioning Shampoo (#116) This unique conditioning shampoo is designed to relieve itching for all dogs, cats, ferrets and rabbits; especially those with sensitive skin. It also removes dead skin and even remoisturizes! (Shampoo available in 17oz. bottles)

Q: Why is Oatmeal so good for the skin?

A: Oatmeal baths were common in ancient times for those who needed generalized treatment for dry, itchy skin. Colloidal oatmeal binds to the skin and creates an adherent barrier that is thought to protect the skin from harmful substances. The hydrated granules of colloidal oatmeal adhere to the surface of the skin and in its folds. In this way, the oatmeal provides a protective action by creating a protecting film on the skin to absorb humidity and reduce friction.

    Tips for Purr-fect Pet Health

During the summer months, there are many things that you can do to make "shure" your pets are happy, healthy and purr-fectly safe during the hot days. To follow are some tips and facts that will help keep your pet in grrr-eat shape!

Not all Cats Hate Water Cats from hot locales even have a tendency to love it (including lions, tigers, jaguars and ocelots.) However, other cats who live in colder areas, such as the lynx, bobcat and cougar do not venture out of their way to get wet. Some veterinarians theorize that water destroys how fur insulates an animal against cold. Although most domestic cats do not like water, none completely avoid it. However their ancestors developed an attitude about water a long time ago was passed on to domestic cats today.

Keep your Pet Cool To help avoid heat stroke, provide your pet with shaded locales and plenty of fresh water (check his water bowl several times a day to be "shure" it is full). Do not allow your pet to overexert himself. Watch for irregular breathing. If your pet appears to be hot, place the purr-fect pet towel over him and it will instantly begin to cool your pet off.

Helping Birds in the Hot Weather Provide water at varying heights to attract the greatest variety of birds. Some birds prefer ground level ponds and puddles. Remember Mother Nature's water is normally on the ground, and most birds will look there first. Fill plant saucers with water and place around your yard. You can purchase pre-formed shallow bird bath ponds that sit on the ground, providing a small pond that is a few inches deep. Some even have built in drippers and misters. Make a slight indentation in your garden and set a hose in it. Let the water flow into the indentation VERY slowly, making an artificial rain puddle. Even the butterflies will love this!

Use Aloe Vera Aloe Vera is a well-studied herb for topical use. Documented beneficial properties include pain relief, anti-swelling and anti-itching. The herb has also been documented to increase blood flow to the area in which it is applied, thus it will speed up the healing process.
